The Taking of Sinhagad

Tanaji Malusare recaptured Kondhana in a daring night assault but fell in the fight — 'The fort is won, but the lion is lost.'

Scaling the sheer cliff with the help of a monitor lizard named Yashwanti, the Marathas stormed the fort. In honour of Tanaji's sacrifice, Kondhana was renamed Sinhagad — the Lion's Fort.
