The Escape from Agra

Held captive at Aurangzeb's court, Shivaji engineered a daring escape hidden in baskets of sweets — one of history's most audacious feats.

Feigning illness, Shivaji obtained leave to send out baskets of sweets to holy men. Concealed within, he and young Sambhaji slipped past the guards and, in disguise, journeyed back to Swarajya over many weeks.
